Climbing Kilimanjaro is less about technical mountaineering than preparation, pacing and respect for altitude. Routes cross changing ecological zones—from cultivated foothills and rainforest to alpine desert and the high volcanic landscape near Uhuru Peak.
We work with experienced local mountain teams and recommend realistic itineraries that allow time to acclimatise. Before the climb, we help with route choice and equipment guidance; afterwards, we can add a restorative safari or Zanzibar stay.
Four places. One beautifully connected Tanzania experience.
Each chapter can be included in a private itinerary or adjusted around your time, interests and preferred pace.
01
Mountain Adventures
Machame Route
WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO
Climb a scenic southern approach through rainforest, heath and high alpine terrain, using a climb-high, sleep-low profile before joining the summit route. It is popular, physical and fully camping-based.
WHERE YOU CAN STAY
Sleep in expedition tents at designated mountain camps, supported by guides, cooks and porters. We include comfortable Moshi accommodation before and after the climb.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
January–early March and June–October are the most popular drier windows. Mountain weather remains changeable in every month, especially at altitude.
02
Mountain Adventures
Lemosho Route
WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO
Begin on the quieter western side, crossing beautiful forest and the Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit. A longer itinerary offers varied scenery and a more gradual acclimatisation schedule.
WHERE YOU CAN STAY
The route uses staffed tented camps throughout. A private climb can be tailored with upgraded tents and extra support, plus hotel nights in Moshi or Arusha.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
January–early March and June–October are generally favoured. Seven or eight mountain days are commonly chosen to support a steadier pace.
03
Mountain Adventures
Marangu Route
WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO
Follow Kilimanjaro's established southeastern trail through rainforest and moorland. Marangu is the only main route using mountain huts, but its shorter schedules should not be mistaken for an easy ascent.
WHERE YOU CAN STAY
Simple shared huts replace tents on the mountain, with dining areas and basic facilities. Private rooms are not guaranteed; hotel stays are arranged before and after.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
January–early March and June–October are popular. The route can operate in other months, but rainfall and cloud are more likely during the long rains.
04
Mountain Adventures
Northern Circuit Route
WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO
Circle around Kilimanjaro's remote northern slopes on one of the mountain's longest route profiles. Extra days, quieter trails and broad views appeal to trekkers who prioritise acclimatisation and immersion.
WHERE YOU CAN STAY
Fully supported tented camping is used across the mountain. We build in arrival, equipment-check and recovery nights, with private transfers to the trailhead.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The standard dry-season windows of January–early March and June–October suit most climbers. The longer time commitment should be planned well in advance.
Wildlife, marine life and seasonal movements are natural and cannot be guaranteed. We use current local conditions to shape the best possible itinerary.
