Kilindoni & Whale-shark Season
WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO
Join a responsibly managed boat excursion from the western side of Mafia when whale sharks seasonally feed near the surface. Encounters are natural, never guaranteed, and should follow calm in-water guidelines.
WHERE YOU CAN STAY
Stay near Kilindoni for the easiest early departures, or combine the excursion with a longer marine-park stay around Utende using a private island transfer.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Whale sharks are most commonly sought from roughly October–March, with the peak varying by year. We confirm recent local activity before building the itinerary.

Chole has characterful, small-scale island accommodation; most visitors also use Utende as a practical base. We arrange boats and local guides around the tide timetable.

Possible year-round, with June–October generally drier. Boat crossings and sandbank visits depend on tides, wind and local safety advice.

Pemba offers a limited collection of boutique resorts, dive-focused lodges and practical town hotels. We plan domestic flights, long road transfers and boat excursions as one journey.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
June–October is generally drier; December–February is warmer. Diving conditions shift by coast and monsoon, so we match dates to the experience and operator advice.
