INTRODUCING WESTERN CIRCUIT

For travellers who want to go further.

Western Tanzania feels genuinely removed from the familiar safari trail. Katavi delivers raw seasonal drama and wide-open wilderness; Mahale's forested mountains meet palm-fringed beaches on Lake Tanganyika; and Gombe offers intimate, ranger-led chimpanzee trekking near Kigoma.

Reaching the west requires thoughtful logistics, which is where our planning matters most. We coordinate flights, boats, camp transfers and realistic connection times, building a journey that feels adventurous without feeling improvised.

Four places. One beautifully connected Tanzania experience.

Each chapter can be included in a private itinerary or adjusted around your time, interests and preferred pace.

01
Wildlife Safaris

Katavi National Park

WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO

Enter one of Tanzania's most remote safari landscapes, where seasonal floodplains, woodland and river channels support buffalo, elephant, hippo, crocodile and predators with very few other vehicles.

WHERE YOU CAN STAY

A handful of small seasonal tented camps offer an immersive wilderness stay. Most itineraries use scheduled safari flights and combine Katavi with Mahale.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

June–October is the core season, with the strongest concentrations often late in the dry period. Many camps close or reduce operations through the wettest months.

02
Wildlife Safaris

Mahale Mountains

WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO

Trek forest trails with park rangers in search of habituated chimpanzees, then return to a beach on Lake Tanganyika for swimming, kayaking or a dhow trip when conditions allow.

WHERE YOU CAN STAY

Intimate lakeside lodges and tented camps combine barefoot comfort with guided forest access. Reaching them normally involves a light-aircraft flight followed by a boat transfer.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

June–October is generally drier and comfortable for trekking. Chimpanzee locations vary; the greener months can be beautiful but wetter and more humid.

03
Wildlife Safaris

Gombe Stream National Park

WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO

Follow steep forest trails with a ranger in the landscape associated with Jane Goodall's long-term chimpanzee research. The park also offers birdlife, waterfalls and wide Lake Tanganyika views.

WHERE YOU CAN STAY

Accommodation is simple and limited, with park facilities and small stays around Kigoma used before or after the boat journey. We coordinate the city, port and park connections.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

June–October is typically drier and easier underfoot. November–February can be green and rewarding; trekking continues to depend on daily chimpanzee movements and park conditions.

04
Wildlife Safaris

Lake Tanganyika & Kigoma

WHAT YOU CAN SEE & DO

Slow the pace beside one of the world's deepest lakes with boat journeys, beaches, fishing communities and historic Kigoma. The lake is also the essential scenic connection to Mahale and Gombe.

WHERE YOU CAN STAY

Choose a lakeside lodge, a practical Kigoma hotel or an integrated beach stay within Mahale. We arrange boats and buffer nights around remote flight schedules.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

June–October generally offers drier weather and calmer logistics. Lake conditions can change quickly at any time, so boat plans remain subject to local safety advice.

Wildlife, marine life and seasonal movements are natural and cannot be guaranteed. We use current local conditions to shape the best possible itinerary.
